I am officially on spring break, which means it’s time to crank out a ton of new blog posts (yayyy)! However, before I start uploading more content, I need to give you guys my fourth edition of my New York diaries. And oh my gosh, how I miss New York already…
As you can see, the first full day in Manhattan was very rainy. However, as a California girl who rarely sees rain for herself, I didn’t mind it at all. I actually packed really light but made sure I packed the right kind of stuff. Honestly, I’m going to say it – I’m really proud that I didn’t overpack because I usually put so much extra stuff in my luggage that I end up never wearing on the trip.
The reason why I came back to New York was to see where I’ll be going to college in the fall and attend an event there. Oh my gosh, I had such a great time! As you can see, it was so beautiful and warm on campus that day. I’m so happy that I got to go back and see it. It was nice to just hang out for the day and enjoy being in the city I’m moving to.
I did a lot of shopping and walking around when I was there which was amazing. I love that you can pretty much walk anywhere you want to. It was really refreshing and lovely to just spend time in my favorite city and focus on my future for awhile…
It’s crazy to think that I’ll be moving here in a few months. I know I say that a lot, but it’s true. Sometimes I catch myself thinking “oh my gosh, this is my life?!”. I recently found a journal that I had written in a few months into 2017. One of the goals I had written down was to travel to New York. And here I am, two years later, getting ready to move there.
I’m glad I can share this journey will all of you. I have a lot of more posts coming your way very soon so stay on the lookout. 🙂
I have a very exciting blog post for you today! I’m super happy to announce that we now have ads on Emily’s Edge! I thought it would be fair for me to explain to you what these ads do and mean, because let’s be honest, even I didn’t know an hour ago.
Let me try and break down what I know, and hopefully answer a few questions along the way:
I only get paid a little bit for every certain amount of views I receive. This means that every view I get counts/helps me out towards the large number I’m hoping to reach!
I do not get to pick which advertisements are shown on my blog. One day there may be one for Glossier, and the next day it might be for Crocs. (I’m not actually sure what kinds of things will be advertised.)
This blog has never been, and will never be, about making money. For me, Emily’s Edge is an outlet where I can share what I love most: fashion.
I’m so happy that I can finally introduce ads onto my website, but I want to thank you guys for always reading and coming back here! Without you, I wouldn’t be able to have this opportunity. 🙂
For someone who has always had long, healthy hair, it’s a subject that I don’t talk about enough on here. I know many people are looking for ways to maintain long hair or are just trying to find new products to try out. If so, you’re in the right place! I’m going to share all of the ways I keep my curls healthy and long!
Trim your hair when it needs to be trimmed. I’m someone who wants to keep my hair as long as possible at all times. However, in order to keep it at the length I want, I have it trimmed when the ends aren’t in the best condition. If you don’t get rid of split ends, they’ll continue to split even farther up your hair, making it so that you’ll have to get it cut even more in the long run. Take care of it now so that you thank yourself in the future!
Refrain from using a lot of heat on your hair. I never use heat on my hair; even when I get out of the shower, I let it air dry. It’s not terrible to use heat on your hair occasionally, but I’ve heard that a lot of hair damage comes from using an excessive amount of heat styling products.
Use hair masks and leave-in conditioners for extra shine and silkiness. Masks are super great because they come in a variety of purposes and always leave your hair feeling extra soft and shiny. Additionally, leave-in conditioners are also super helpful, especially if you have dyed or dry hair.
Take vitamins with biotin. Biotin is known for promoting hair and nail growth! I take a daily multi-vitamin with biotin in it; I’m not completely sure how much it’s contributed to the length on my hair, but I do know that other people see a big difference when taking it. It can’t hurt, and is worth a shot. 🙂
Use shampoo and conditioner that you love and works with your hair type. Since I have naturally super curly hair, I’ve tried out different shampoos and conditioners to see which one works best for my curls. Try out a few for yourself and pick one that enhances what you have, whether that’s curls, color, waves, etc.!
If you’re trying to grow your hair out, be patient and do your research. Like I mentioned above, I’ve had long hair my whole life, so I’ve never really seen my hair go from a short to long length. However, if you’re trying to grow yours out, be patient! Nothing happens overnight, and everyone’s hair grows at different speeds. Talk to your hairdresser about products that will work well for you and research ways to grow out hair.
Of course, I am no hairdresser or doctor, but these are things that I do to keep my hair healthy and looking its best.
Hope you all loved this blog post! I’m heading to New York in a couple weeks so expect the fourth edition of “The New York Diaries” within the next month!
By now, it’s no surprise that I’m a big Glossier fan. I mention them in just about every other blog post, and if I could become one of their brand ambassadors, I would in a second (get on it, Glossier). Glossier Play, the new extension of their brand, was announced recently and officially launched yesterday.
Glossier Play currently sells six items, and in true Glossier fashion, they offer two bundle sets for a lower price. Right off the bat, you can tell that these products are for the adventurous and wild at heart: it offers shiny metallic highlighter concentrates and glitter-filled eyeshadows. It’s definitely different from the natural and minimalistic products they usually sell, but it still resembles Glossier. The packaging is sleek and sophisticated with clean lettering and cohesive designs. Would we expect anything less?
The collection also offers something new that we haven’t seen from the brand in the past: makeup brushes and tools. With a sharpener and angled silicone brush, Glossier makes sure that their customers will know exactly what to use to nail all of their night out looks.
So, what do you think? Are there any items from the collection that you want?
I think I’m not the only one who feels like these past two months have flown by. One minute it was the new year, and now it’s March… where does the time go?
I really haven’t taken the time to sit down for awhile and blog, but it sure does feel amazing to do that now. I thought that I might just update you since it’s been a minute! 🙂
Last week, I had the opportunity to be a guest speaker for the fashion design class/fashion club at my school! It was seriously awesome; I got to talk about myself and Emily’s Edge, as well as answer questions that they had for me. I could tell some of the girls really enjoyed it and were interested. It reminded me of why I started this blog and how much it means to me. I felt super honored to talk to all of them!
I’ve also been meeting and connecting with even more people that I’m going to college with next year, which is super great! Everyone is so nice, and I’ve already found three roommates who are already such awesome friends. It makes me even more comfortable with moving across the country in a few months.
Speaking of which, I’m heading back to New York next month for a few days where I’ll be going to an accepted student’s day for my college. I’m meeting some of my roomies and friends in person for the first time, and it’s going to be so fun! And of course, I’m more than ecstatic to be back in New York. I miss it.
As for the time being, I’ve been sick for a bit and have been spending a lot of time at home and in bed resting. I was supposed to see a concert tonight, but I’m unfortunately having to skip it because of this cold. You win some, you lose some.
I hope all of you are having a happy year so far! I’m going to be back super soon with more posts again, but I’m glad I could share this little update!
I recently listened to a podcast episode from one of my favorite podcasts, What We Said by Jaci Smith and Chelsey Curtis, where they talked about their favorite beauty products. As you all know from reading this blog, I love a good makeup or skincare product. Hearing about what Jaci and Chelsey love inspired me to do the same and share with you what I’m loving at the moment!
Glossier Bomb Dotcom in Rose:I’m going to keep this short because I’ve talked about this way too many times, but this is definitely one of my favorite lip balms. I’m actually close to finishing the whole tube which is super impressive considering it’s filled with a good amount of product.
Garnier Micellar Water:This stuff has made removing my makeup ten times easier. I always use this to take off the base of my makeup before using cleanser to really make sure my skin is completely makeup-free. If you haven’t used this stuff yet, you’re missing out! I’ve gone through so many big and travel sized bottles of this.
Buxom Full-On Plumping Lip Polish Gloss in Sophia:I love Buxom lip glosses. I have so many mini ones from sets, as well as a few full sized ones that I equally adore. They leave such a minty and fresh scent that lasts for an extended period of time. This one in Sophia is the perfect everyday color; it’s light pink with a beautiful, sparkly sheen.
Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer:I have dry skin that needs to be moisturized whenever I wash my face. I picked this up about a month ago, and let me tell you, I have already made a fair dent in the moisturizer. After I use this, I never feel the need to use primer under my makeup because it still applies great. This is definitely a product that I will be repurchasing!
Glossier Lash Slick: This is another product that I’ve talked about many, many times, but I’m still not over it. I know most people say this is a good product if you want natural looking lashes, but use a few coats of this and you achieve voluminous and long ones. As a mascara lover, I’ve always been on the hunt to find one that’s the best; I come back to lash slick each time.
Mer-Sea & Co. Body Cream in Coconut Sugar: If any of you also have a FabFitFun subscription, you might have gotten this in your last winter box. I love this stuff. I hate lotions that feel super slimy and sticky, but this one soaks into your skin and leaves it so silky smooth. It smells just like a warm, beach vacation, too!
Roses De Chloé Rollerball: This is my favorite perfume. My favorite flowers are roses, and it’s also my favorite scent. This fragrance isn’t too strong and overpowering; it’s floral-y and soft. I love the smell of this and how it reminds me of fresh cut roses.
Glossier Invisible Shield: I can’t emphasize how important it is to protect your skin daily from the sun. With a lemon scent, great sun protection, and a clear application, Invisible Shield is your new favorite sunscreen.
Lavanila Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Lavender: I’ve been using this stuff for years now, and I love it because it doesn’t have aluminum in it. If you’re going to be using a product everyday, make sure to check out how clean and healthy it is!
As always, the links to everything I’ve mentioned are up above! Also, make sure you tune in to What We Said every Tuesday for new podcast episodes and follow them below!
This year has been one on my mind for awhile now since I knew it would be a year of new experiences, changes, endings, and beginnings. Now that it’s here, I can’t quite wrap my head around it but it gets a little more real each day.
I’m excited for 2019. Some resolutions for the year are…
-Wear more color! Try to step out of your habit of buying white shirts, Emily. You’re more interesting than that! (13 days into this new year, and let me tell you, I have been so much better already.)
-Actually eat breakfast. I’m the kind of person who runs out the door in the morning and doesn’t grab something to eat because I’m “too busy,” which is a lame excuse that will end this year.
-Read more books. I love reading, and I forget about how therapeutic it is for me. This year, I’m going to make sure I have a book that I’m reading at all times and that I give myself time to read it.
-Less Starbucks, more coffee at home. I have become way too reliant on Starbucks for my daily cup of iced coffee, but I have a Nespresso machine at home and am 100% capable of being my own barista. Catch me perfecting my iced coffee recipe this year.
Those are some changes I’m going to make this year; what are your plans and resolutions?
In terms of exciting and new changes, I will be graduating high school this spring and then starting college in the fall. However, I’ll be leaving my home for the past 18 years, Southern California, for a new adventure in New York where I’ll be a Fashion Studies major!!! I’m not too pumped about packing everything, but I’m ecstatic to be studying what I love in my favorite city! I also really love the school that I committed to, which makes everything ten times more wonderful (go Johnnies)!
Anyways, many amazing things are on the horizon, and I’m ready to make the very most of this year and all of the things that are coming my way. 2019 is going to be a year to remember!
