Hello everyone!

Today I sat down and channeled my inner Project Runway contestant (not really) by making these lace chokers! Chokers are such a huge trend, and they are really easy to make. I decided to make some out of lace that my mom had. You can make them out of whatever material you want: ribbons, velvet, lace, etc. Here is the way that I made them at home!

You will need:

-Lace, ribbon, velvet, etc. of your choice

-Sewing thread that matches the color of your fabric

-One sewing needle

-Scissors

-A ruler/measuring tape

-Jewelry snaps

To start off with, you are going to take your lace and and measure out the correct size. The typical choker length is 12 inches, but you can make it larger or smaller if you need it to be. Cut the material at the correct length. If you’re using lace, be careful when you cut it. Some lace has special details with stretchy elastic that can unwind and fray. Check to make sure the kind you have is not going to do that.

After you do this, you are going to take your snaps and place them on the end of the lace. Please make sure that they are in the right spots! One should be on the inside of the lace, and one should be placed on the outside so that they can come together and snap. As you can see in the photos above, the snap on the left is placed on the outside and the right is on the inside.

Now you are going to thread your sewing needle, and sew the snap on. When you sew the snap on, you are going to sew through the holes that are already in the snap. You are going to have to do this several times so that it won’t be loose. The snaps tend to move during the first few times you’re threading through them, so make sure to have a good grip.

After you have sewn the snap on, you are going to take the end of the thread and tie a knot. You can cut the thread after this. Leave a little bit of extra thread so that if it ever gets loose, you can retie it! Then wrap the choker around your neck, and find the place on the other side where you are going to want to sew the other snap. Repeat the process above, and sew the other one on!

Once you have sewn both snaps, you are done! It sounds way more complicated than it actually is. If your first time sewing isn’t a success, try again! Also make sure to buy extra fabric so that you can make mistakes if you need to. 🙂

Don’t be afraid to make them in different colors, too! The kind I’m wearing are beige and white, but other bright colors would be super cute!

You’re only going to need one snap on each side of the lace, but if you’re using a thicker one than me you might want to add two just so that it stays on nicely. Also, if you don’t want to sew, you could always just use velcro or tie the lace in the back. I honestly think that this looks so much nicer and less homemade, but it’s totally up to you!

Lace chokers are super cute, and if you make one of your own, definitely make sure to let me know!

If you have questions about how to make these, you can ask me in the comments. I’d be happy to answer any questions that you have 🙂
